BC Green Games is a province-wide competition for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12, designed to motivate action, enable sharing and reward and celebrate the green efforts of schools in BC.
The steps to participation include:
1. Register! Sign your team up beginning September 15, 2011 until March 1, 2012, or support a secondary student Team Leader to sign up their team.
2. Submit and Share! Starting February 1 and until March 1, 2012 submit your team's entry, or support your Team Leader in entry submission. View projects in the BC Green Games Gallery and vote for your favourite entries during March 2012!
3. See the Winners! Chosen by judges and you and announced in April 2012.
(note: these dates are subject to change)
New info for 8-12 teachers this year!
- Now secondary students have the opportunity to take on a leadership role. Teacher sponsors and teams can designate a Team Leader (secondary student) who has the responsibility of registration and submission of their school team's final projects.
- How can sponsor teachers help? Secondary teachers can mobilize students to become Team Leaders, as well as provide in-class and ongoing support for their students' eco-action projects.
Working as a team, support your students in the following:
- design a creative and innovative solution to an environmental challenge in their school or community
- document their actions that help solve the challenge
- measure changes in behaviour of community members as a result of these actions
Projects may include but are not limited to topics like the following:
- climate change
- greenhouse gas reduction
- energy conservation
- stewardship and conservation
- sustainable development
Projects that fit into BC Green Games submission guidelines and are action-based projects facilitated by an established environmental education program are encouraged.
BC Green Games was developed in collaboration with youth, the BC Ministry of Education, the Environmental Educator’s Provincial Specialist Association (EEPSA), and the North Vancouver and Richmond School Districts.
